Riona was sobbing, literally sobbing so hard that she couldn't breathe. I'd seen her cry a little but to the extent that she was crying she obviously did not want to let go of Julius, none of us did. What I didn't expect was for her to pick up the staff.

"R-Riona, no!"

"Are you serious? Look at her eyes... she can't even focus, she's probably mental."

"I-I'm not... I'm not mental!"

Julius flipped about even more. "N-No! Riona, you'll hurt yourself!" He screamed. But, he was probably too late. She'd already decided what she wanted to do.

"P-Please, just let the cat go! He's just annoying and talks too much and demands to be petted five times every hour! And he's always hungry, he's a bit of a pervert, and he obviously hates to be caged."

"All of that can be easily broken."

I frowned. "He's super old too. Like, he could probably keel over any minute now. He's like, a hundred years old and we recently were told by a fortune teller he'd die soon. He'll bring you little money."

The man wasn't budging though. He really wanted Julius.

I was starting to get anxious, Riona was really upset and she wouldn't say anything, she was trying to focus her energy on doing something but whatever it was... it wasn't going to be good. I looked back and couldn't help but notice that Marcus and Gill weren't there but I could see their horses.

"R-Riona... please don't do this."

No response, she was tuning me out.

"Then why do you still want him if he's going to die anyway?"

"I can sell him to the next person I meet. High price. They'll never know."

"R-Riona! Stop! Please don't!!" Julius was screaming wildly. I bit my lip and watched and then, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I saw Marcus and Gill sneaking up behind the guy. I kept my face straight, trying not to give them away.

"How pathetic... stealing a blind girl's pet. You're a worthless piece of scum." I frowned. Julius was basically Riona's pet anyway. He acted like it.

"It's not like she understands."

Why did he say those things? Riona was standing there crying and holding Julius' staff, she obviously understood what was happening.

"S-Stop saying those things... I'm not stupid."

"If you were so smart why don't you just use your magic and get ride of me?"

"No Riona, don't!" It would kill her, she was having her intelligence questioned and it was hurting her, I could tell.

"B-But I am smart!"

I frowned. "Says the person stealing a cat. You actually think people will buy such a thing? He could very well refuse to talk and instead meow constantly like an idiot."

Julius was clawing at the net now. "Riona, please don't do that! What if you die?! I don't want to lose you! He's just baiting you like a fish! Don't do it!"

I could see Marcus and Gill getting ever closer. In just a few seconds, they'd have him.

"But... J-Julius..." Riona's confusion was becoming very apparent but she seemed more afraid than that. I don't think she knew what to do with herself. All the voices were making her panic and I remember seeing this happen before when people were making comments about her.

I saw Gill approaching with Marcus, they were practically on top of him.

I watched both men jump, Gill going for the body, Marcus going for his knife, and they fell to the ground in a struggle. I ran for the net and picked Julius up quickly and ran back to Riona as the guys rolled around. "H-Here! Riona, I'm pu;;ing him out of the net right now! It's okay!" I said, desperately trying to find the opening. But I eventually found it, took the staff, and placed Julius in her arms. "There he is! All yours again!"

And Julius immediately began purring and everything. Those two were perfect together, but I wondered if they knew.

She immediately held Julius close to her face and cuddled him. I think he was a peace bringer for her, she was constantly in the dark and afraid... she needed that peace.

"Thank you!" Riona cried.

I looked at Viann and smiled a little. We both knew they were perfect for each other. It was so cute!

Julius was purring and assuring her that he was fine, while asking if she was okay, and asking her to stop crying because as he said, she was too pretty to cry.

I looked back at the guys and they had subdued the man that tried to take their brother away and were debating on whether or not they should kill him. To those three, kidnapping, or even threatening to kill a brother was a serious matter. Marcus and Gill were taking it very seriously that he tried to take Julius away... and even though they didn't show it, it was very serious to them that Julius was cursed. Everything between them was serious.

"We should definitely kill him!" Marcus growled. "He threatened to kill Julius and skin him!!"

"N-No! Please don't, I've only been hired to go find unique creatures! I'm sorry!"

"People like you still make me sick, threatening a blind girl, trying to kill an innocent being... you are disgusting!" Gill was really angry, he was protective and very sweet but when messed with or having his loved ones messed with... he was prone to exploding.

"Why should we let you live if you're just going to do the same thing to someone else?!" Marcus exclaimed angrily. They both had a mind to kill the man. I definitely wanted to as well. I think everyone wanted to kill him for messing with Julius... and in turn, messing with Riona who'd become a sort of sweet little sister to us all in only a day's time.

I turned to see Riona hugging Julius tight and smiled again. They were adorable.

I saw the fire in Gill's eyes seem to leave only a little bit. He took his foot off the man's back and stepped away, "Find a better job, and if you see someone holding an animal... you promise that you won't touch it or next time I will kill you."

"I-I-I p-promise!"

"Get out of here."

Gill walked away from him, he was really angry. He walked by me and I reached out to touch his arm, "Gill..."

"Let me cool off..." He gave me a half smile and then kissed my cheek, "Are you okay, Julius?"

"Other than my pride, I am fine." He said softly. "Thank you."

Marcus shrugged some. I think he was a bit irritated that Gill let the man go, but he also never really would question Gill's reasons. I'd never seen three brothers with so much faith in the other's actions before. None claimed to be smarter... unless it was in jest.

"You two are heroes." I said with a smile and kissed Marcus' cheek.

"Good." Gill got to Riona and helped her back onto the horse, she was scraped up a little and I guessed it was from falling off and we hadn't noticed. "As long as the impact didn't injure you, you seem just fine."

"Thank you." Riona smiled and hugged Julius again.

Julius looked like he didn't like being hugged, but he was taking it quietly and nuzzled her some. He was a sweetheart, and was purring loudly.

We all got back on our horses and began walking again.

*Riona*

I kept feeling his fur and his ears and making sure he was always with me because it scared me not to have him. It's how I was with my canvas, it was my comfort and I felt lost without something familiar in my arms. I didn't mean to suffocate him though, I was just scared and everything was so dark.

"Am I hurting you?" I asked later, my hands were always shaky, I clutched at things a lot and if I wasn't holding something I was hugging myself.

"Not badly, but thank you... I'll let you go now..." I hesitantly let go of him and clasped my hands together. But then I ended up reaching for him again and scratching behind his ear.

I really hoped nothing scary like that happened again, it was too much... but I wanted to learn magic just in case. "C-Can I try the button again?"

I nodded. "It is in your pocket. I watched you put it there." I said softly. "Just remember to shut out all noises and only concentrate on moving the button."

I felt for my pocket and then I found the button. I made sure it was in the palm of my hand and then began to focus, tuning out everything else. It helped that no one was talking but I couldn't always have it where there was complete silence. I saw the button briefly when the magic surrounded it, but it didn't move.

I saw her expression change for a moment. Did she see it? Did she see the button? I wanted to know, but I didn't ask. She would tell me later. Right now, she was practicing.

I felt it bounce off my hand for a second and then it dropped back and I stopped focusing, "I moved it a little!" I said in excitement, "Did you see?"
