To Whom It May Concern
"Caroline!!" The voice rang through the hallway, like a bee in a metal concert. But I heard the voice. My ears were attuned to the sound of her quiet voice. I ran back to my desk and looked to Caroline beside me.
"Yes, she's calling you." Caroline confirmed and I stepped into the Witch's Layer.
"Caroline, write an article for me on the effects that blah balh blah blah blah blah blah blah blah" That's all I hear. All day, every day. And my name's not Caroline either. That's the other assistant.
My name is Renee... but you can call me Rae! I like that better.
After writing down the list of things Jean needed me to do before four o'clock, I took a seat at my desk with a sigh.
"What took so long?" Caroline whined. "I had to pee! And you know how much she hates for the desk to be unmanned!"
I shook my head. "She had a long list for today. Go and pee."
"Thank you!!" She exclaimed quietly before walking off quickly in her heels.
Hmm. I looked down at my clunky shoes and smiled. Much more comfortable and much more manageable.
--
Four o'clock came and went and yet another impossible task had me in Jean's office. "You're fired."
"What?" I had to do a double take. "What do you mean? What did I do?"
"What do you mean, 'What did you do?' I'm bored of you. Now, be gone."
"B-B-B-But... you can't do that!" I exclaimed, totally flustered.
"Can't? Oh, but I can! The contract you signed says I can let you go at any time for any reason. Period." She turned to look at me from the article she was reading. She glared. "I expect your things to be gone from this office by tomorrow morning."
I stood in shock. What was I going to do? What other job would I get? What-
"Go."
I turned and walked out the door in a huff.
--
I had nowhere else to go. No money. I had to get a new job... and quick.
Which is why I am now sitting in a smelly manager's office in a restaurant, interviewing for a waitressing job.
How lovely. This is not where I wanted to be. I wanted to be writing editors columns in big journals!
But now... now I'll never get there. I'll be a waitress for the rest of my life.
"You got the job! You have a nice resume!"
Oh shut up.

Re: To Whom It May Concern
"Dang. I haven't been here since I was ten. This place has got to serve the best hamburgers ever. I mean these things are packed with cheese and all that good stuff!" I exclaimed, "You have got to try one, Dan, I'm so serious."
Dan's eyes scanned the place. Sure it seemed like your typical restaurant but he didn't think singers would eat at simple places. Of course I wasn't really that big on eating where camera crews were hiding.
"Matt are you sure?"
"Heck yeah. You have to try this food!"
"I don't know..."
I looked at my manager, "Daniel Alloysious R-"
"Don't finish my name! I'll eat here, I'm sorry!"

Re: To Whom It May Concern
"Rae! Customers on table five!" Holly yelled into the kitchen where I had just dropped off an order.
"Okay, order up!" I called before rolling to table five, expertly skidding to a stop. I pulled out my pen and pad and grinned happily. "Hello and welcome to Mal's Diner! What would you like to drink?" I asked with a chipper voice, sweet smile, and sparkling light blue eyes. I tucked a strand of reddish-brown hair behind my ear, and listened for their replies.

"The classic burger, extra cheese and onions." I answered, then looked across to Dan who was just staring at the menu as if there were slugs smeared all over it, "He'll have the same thing. He needs to gain a pound or two."
"That's not true, Matt. I have a good weight."
"Of a newborn. Eat the burger, you'll get healthier."

Re: To Whom It May Concern
I smiled and turned to face the kitchen. "Classic ham, double cheese and onions times two!" I then turned back innocently. "Alright then, what can I get you to drink?"
Re: To Whom It May Concern
"Can I have a lemonade? Oh and a salad?" I asked, looking at my watch, "I just need to have one..."
Dan had a wonderful meeting with the table, I suddenly figured the two would get along wonderfully. How awesome! I patted his head, "You'll live buddy."

Re: To Whom It May Concern
I nodded. "And what about your friend?" I debated on whether or not to tell the poor soul that table wasn't as interested in him as he was in it.
Re: To Whom It May Concern
"The doctors say he's got about an hour to live so let's make it a good one!" I gave her a thumbs up and a wink. "He'll have a Dr. Pepper."
Re: To Whom It May Concern
"Alright then... anything else you need?" I asked sweetly, trying not to stare at the cute guy as I laid a small laminated card on the table. It was the size of a business card and had my name on it. Rae. It read: Your Server's Name: RAE
Re: To Whom It May Concern
"Pain killers." Dan groaned.
I slapped his arm, "Hah! What a cutup! Nah, we're good! Thank you, Rae! I'm Matt Drake." I reached out to shake her hand.

Re: To Whom It May Concern
"It's nice to meet you too!" I replied happily, blissfully unawares of his status as I shook his hand.
"Order seventeen!" The cook called loudly.
"Oh! That's mine! Grab me if you need me! I'll be back in a bit with your drinks!" And so I rolled off to the kitchen, stuffing the pad and pen in my little black apron, tied around the small waist of my little yellow 50's style cotton dress... complete with sewn-on poodle and black mesh stockings. I hated the uniforms, but everyone said I looked cute.

Re: To Whom It May Concern
"She's awesome." I said in almost a jealous way, "Whoever she has around her finger is a lucky guy."
"Don't get any ideas, Matthew. You have to focus on-"
"Eating? I know. When I get an idea I don't like to eat."
"That's not what I meant. What are you thinking anyway?"
I smirked, "That this girl doesn't have any reason to be a waitress."

Re: To Whom It May Concern
I came rolling back around a few minutes later with their drinks. "Lemonade..." I said placing the drink in front of the cute one. "And Dr. Pepper." I placed the other in front of the serious guy. "Your food's almost ready. It'll probably be about five more minutes. You need anything else?"
Re: To Whom It May Concern
"A chill pill, for that guy." I pointed at Dan and he just raised his eye brows at me before glaring at his soda. Oh well. There was no hope for him.
"Thanks, Rae." I smirked.
"Thanks, Rae." I smirked.
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I think I turned a bit red... but I just smiled. "No problem. I'll be back in a bit with your food!" I turned around expertly to face the kitchen and began my journey to the great unknown.
"Rae! One baked potato soup, heavy on the bacon!"
"Alright, Mal! Thanks!" I called back. I kind of liked working at that restaurant. The work wasn't too difficult, and no one gave you an impossible task.

Re: To Whom It May Concern
"Man, you're going to get me fired." Dan groaned. He was his usual irritated self with no sense of humor whatsoever.
"Fired? Nah. I like you too much for that. If they try to fire you I'll come in raging about it. Besides, who would be my best man when I get married?"
"Suck up." Dan gave me that look he always gave me when he knew I was trying to get on his good side. >.>

Re: To Whom It May Concern
I set the bowl down at the other table and went back to get the other orders. I carried one plate on each on hand and rolled toward my destination. One of the other girls almost ran into me but I expertly dodged her with my roller skating prowess.
"One for you," I said, setting down the burger in front of the business guy. "And one for you." I place the other in front of Matt. "Anything else? Mustard, ketchup, mayo?" I asked, clasping my hands together in front of me.

Re: To Whom It May Concern
"Nothing else but... I was curious is there any hobby you have or anything you like to do that you've never considered as a career?" I asked.
"Matt what the heck?"
"Zip it, Dan. We're always looking for people, right?"
"Matt what the heck?"
"Zip it, Dan. We're always looking for people, right?"
Re: To Whom It May Concern
"Something I've never considered? Um..." I thought for a while before I finally shrugged. "I don't know... all I can think of is I like photography... but I'm really not all that good. It's just a hobby and will probably only ever be a hobby. Why?"
I looked back and forth between the two men. What were they thinking?

Re: To Whom It May Concern
"Just curious. But there has to be more than that right?" picked up Dan's wallet and he scowled at me when I opened it and pulled out one of his business cards.
"Matthew, I'm not a talent scout, I'm a manager."
"So?"
"Which means-"
"Shh, don't make me get out the needle." I patted his head again and then handed her the card.

Re: To Whom It May Concern
I took it and raised an eyebrow at him. "What's this for?"
It had an odd name on it too... "Daniel Alloysious R-"

Re: To Whom It May Concern
"WOAH! That's not his name, I forgot. Wrong card."
"You-"
I snatched it back and then handed her my own card, "Here ya go."

Re: To Whom It May Concern
"This is pretty shocking." Dan chuckled. Wow really? A chuckle? He reached into a black backpack next to him and pulled out a CD, "Have you seen this face?"
Re: To Whom It May Concern
I started at it for a long time before shaking my head, quite confused. "Um... no."
