Look at the past....

Iwa smiled at his fourteen year old sister Mizu. She was sitting in a corner of the library working hard on her home-work.
He walked across the library floor behind her and covered her eyes with his hands.
"Guess what?" He said smiling.
"Stupid." She replied pulling his hands off of her eyes, but she turned and smiled at him. "What?"
"I'm off early today. Someone else called in and said they'd close up cause they were free."
"REALLY?! Dose that mean we can make a real dinner for once?!"
He smiled at her. "Yep!"
She slammed her school book shut excitedly. "REALLY?!"
"Shhh!" He laughed holding a finger to his lips. "No shouting in the library."
She blushed slightly. "Er... Sorry..."
"Common grab your bag and meet me up front."
"Okay!" She smiled and began putting things away.
Iwa headed to the front desk to punch out.

Kay watched the clock. She knew that Mizu and Iwa would be there soon and she hoped she could have the table set and everything finished by then. She figured she'd have some time before they got to the house. Rocky, their cat, was circling her like a hungry shark.

"No, I gave you food. This is for Daddy, okay?" She always called Iwa that when talking to the cat. She knew they wouldn't be expecting her. She'd scare them most likely. Earlier that week she'd been admitted to the hospital, collapsing and then more chemo. She hadn't told Iwa she was being released - so it would be a surprise.

She began to make plates and set the table. They would be so excited! Spaghetti and garlic bread, homemade too! After she finished she grinned, her face was pale and she was wearing a bandanna that Mizu had given her. She didn't have a lot of hair and there was a slight rash on her neck and part of her jaw. But everyone said she was beautiful anyway. Especially when she smiled. There was always a sparkle in her eyes.

Mizu opened the door running inside.
"ROCKY WE'RE HO-" SHe stopped sniffing the air. "Spaghetti?..."
Iwa came in behind her laughing, he too stopped in surprise at the smell.
"Thats kind of weird...." He said frowning, he pushed Mizu behind him worried that some kind of crazy burglar was there.
But when he entered the kitchen and saw Kay he smiled. "Ka-" He started but was interrupted by his sister.
Mizu pushed around him. "HEY YOUR TOO BIG I Can-" She shouted then stopped to scream "KAY!!!!!!" And hug her tightly. "What are you doing here?! I thought you were stuck in the hospital! Is this okay?!"

[Ikuar]

"It's fine." Kay giggled and hugged Mizu tightly and then went to Iwa and gave him a kiss, "I missed you guys so much and I wanted to surprise you. I made it homemade, just like you love!" She was so excited to be right there with them. They were her only family after all.

He smiled at her, giving her a hug, and returned her kiss.
"Your amazing." He said shaking his head. "Thanks. I'm glad your here... But... Shouldn't you be at the hospital... I don't want you getting worse because of us..." He squeezed her lightly.

Mizu giggled, she thought they were adorable and had said as much on many occasions. Then she left, picking up rocky and whispering; "Lets leave them alone to be mushy."
She took him to the couch and began moving his feet around and telling him about her day, like she usually did.

[Ikuar]

"Mmm. No, I was released today, actually. You should just be happy for me. Being in the hospital is no fun and the food tastes like it came out of a broken food processor and then was mixed with spam and cat food." Kay explained, sticking out her tongue in distaste. "Spaghetti was calling for me so I made it."

He laughed and hugged her again. "Well... Okay. Just don't wear yourself out okay?"

Mizu squeezed the cat in a tight hug. "And then he told me I was fat... I'm not fat right Rocky?!" She asked the cat. The cat mewed in protest at the hug.

"I'll be careful, Iwa. I just really want to be home right now and I don't want to think about cancer or anything like that at all so let's just have fun." She turned back, "Mizu! I have your plate here!"

"Comming!" Mizu said dropping the cat on the floor and running the room almost knocking into Kay. "HI! Thanks!" she said smiling. "It's been forever sense we actually had a meal cooked at home!"

Iwa smiled watching them both silently. It had been a while sense he saw Kay up and about. It was nice to see her feeling good enough to walk around again.

"This is the best food I've had in ages." Kay grinned, cutting one of her meatballs in half. She was practically drooling over it.

"I hope I haven't lost my touch, do you guys like it?"

"I LOVE IT!!!! Iwa is always buying some kind of cardboard pizza or Chinese food so same for me." Mizu laughed.
Iwa laughed. "Hey I like that Pizza. It's great Kay thanks." he said as he took another bite of Spaghetti.

[Ikuar]

Kay coughed, chest suddenly on fire. "Ugh..." She reached for her water and took a long gulp of it. Feeling good was so foreign to her. She didn't remember what it felt like at all.

But she could act well. She always looked like she was feeling fine. But her skin and hair said otherwise.

"I'm okay. Just got something caught in my throat."

Iwa looked worried, he was out of his chair in an instant.
"Kay.... Are you sure your allright?" He asked going over to her side.
Mizu rolled her eyes. "Here he goes again." She whispered so that only Kay could hear.

[Ikuar]

Kay smiled at Mizu and then looked towards Iwa with a reassuring smile, "I'm wonderful, Iwa. Like I said, it was something my throat. You have to put oomph into it to get it out ya know?" She patted his head and then pointed to his chair with her free hand, "Sit down before I have to put you in that chair myself."

He still didn't look happy, but he did as he was told and went back to his own seat.
"SO!" Said Mizu changing the subject before her brother insisted Kay go back to the hospital or something equally annoying. "We got a new transfer student today!"

[Ikuar]

"Really? What are they like?" Kay asked, twirling spaghetti noodles around her fork. "Do you mean like someone from another country?"

"Yeah. He's from Japan, he's a real handful! He's not exactly the most cheerful fellow." She said laughing.
Iwa bit into a meat ball, listening quietly and watching Kay closely.

[Ikuar]

Kay giggled, "Watch, one day you'll fall in love with him and marry him out of the blue. Trust me!" She held up a thumb and then another one, "It'll be wonderful!"

Mizu laughed. "No way! You don't know this guy. I don't think he has a bit of romance in him!"

-A few months later-

Iwa blushed as he walked through the woods holding Kay's hand tightly. Today was the day. He had everything planed out, now if only he could work up the courage to actually do it.
The plan was not hard, the execution was what scared him.
He took a deep breath and when they were in a clearing he pointed across to some trees on the other side.
"Hey Kay... I thought I saw something moving over there, can you see it? It might be some Deer." He smiled slightly, that was the first part of his plan.
If she did as he expected everything would work out just fine.

Kay was looking better. The rash was still there and her hair was slightly growing back and they said she was in remission. But she was still weak.

"Oh really?" She said, voice hoarse. It was clearing up. She walked a little bit. "I'll go look."

He got down on one knee and pulled out a small black box. Now she would turn around for the surprise of her life! Hopefully....

"Ah, I don't see anything, Iwa-" She stopped after turning around, her eyes suddenly filled with tears. "Iwa... what..." She could already see what was going to happen.

Iwa tried to keep a smile on his face. He was afraid of her tears. He felt bad now.
"Kay... Will you marry me?...." He asked wanting to get up and wrap his arms around her. He wished she would stop crying. It scared him.

[Ikuar]

"Iwa!" Kay sobbed, "This is beautiful, I don't know what to say except..." She stopped to catch her breath before giving him a full nod, "Yes, I'll marry you! I've been waiting forever for this!"

He got to his feet and hugged her tightly box still in hand. He let out a sigh of relief as though he had been holding his breath the whole time.
"Thank goodness! I thought you were going to say no!" He exclaimed, and kissed her eyes. "Please stop crying..." He hugged her again.
