Re: Actions Speak Louder
Owen smiled a little when she rubbed his cheek. "You're a very curious lady... always wanting to know what I'm thinking."
Re: Actions Speak Louder
Miranda scrapped the last note and wrote, "I am woman with very little to say, much time to listen."
Re: Actions Speak Louder
Owen chuckled at that. "I have to say... I've never been one for thinking. I'm usually just... doing stupid things, but you've had me thinking for a while."
Re: Actions Speak Louder
Miranda nodded to him, motioning for him to continue talking. She was all ears and no voice, she loved to listen anyway - even if she could speak.
Re: Actions Speak Louder
"I was just... thinking that you're pretty young to already be widowed. For me... it wouldn't be so bad, but for you... you're just... so young. It's sad." Owen frowned then. "Then I wonder... who could possibly be so cruel as to kill your husband simply to watch you suffer? I'm just... amazed. I don't understand any of this... I don't know, maybe it's because I'm not human, but to do that... to kill someone's husband or wife... it's horrible." Owen shook his head then and stared at the fire. "I'm just... rambling along with my mind. But... tell me something, please. Would you really rather die than trying to find love again, or are you afraid you will end up loving someone else more?"
Re: Actions Speak Louder
Miranda thought about his question deeply and then wrote in the dirt, "I am afraid she will continue to steal from me." She didn't put her stick down that time, clearly prepared for more questions if he had them.
Re: Actions Speak Louder
"Then... we'll fight together to protect it." He replied softly. "Just... don't worry about her... I'll take care of her, you just... you just live and be happy. I'll settle down nearby and Draco and I will protect you and your new family. She can't steal it if we don't let her..."
Re: Actions Speak Louder
Miranda smiled and wrote into the dirt again, "You're my family." She decided to make a couple more sandwiches since those were rather small. She thought he might still be hungry.
Re: Actions Speak Louder
Owen smiled at that and nodded some. "We're a pretty rowdy family at times..."
Re: Actions Speak Louder
"Don't mind..." Miranda mouthed to him, she tried to make words obvious when she did that. "Fun."
Re: Actions Speak Louder
Owen laughed a bit. "Well then, I guess you have no choice but to stay with us. I mean, I might starve if you leave anyway."
"That almost happened once." Draco yawned sleepily. "All because he can't cook..."

Re: Actions Speak Louder
Miranda only smiled that time, she had nothing more to say as she handed him another sandwich that seemed to be crispier and more manly looking than the previous one. "I love..." She mouthed.
Re: Actions Speak Louder
Love? Love what? Love whom? Owen's cheeks reddened and he took the sandwich with a grateful smiled. "Thank you so much... these are really delicious."
Draco continued telling his story as if they were both listening. "I ended up having to find a cow for him and roasted it. Poor Owen..."

Re: Actions Speak Louder
"Welcome." Miranda mouthed, she was already getting full from the last sandwich she ate, so she stored it away for later. She wanted to giggle at the stories, but not a sound left her mouth as she smiled wider, it was all she could do.
Re: Actions Speak Louder
Owen had never met anyone he'd enjoyed being around more than Mira. She was sweet and caring. She had tons of personality as well, even without her voice. He returned her smile and finished off the last sandwich she made him.

Over the next few years, Owen and Mira had become best friends, even without Mira's ability to speak. She was lively as ever, and they hadn't encountered the witch since Draco had made a point to burn her. Their lives were rather uneventful, their income coming from delivering packages to and fro... and from the occasional stories and 'tricks' Draco and Mira would do outside of towns. The favorites were usually when she'd stand on his snout with one foot.

Re: Actions Speak Louder
Miranda sneezed loudly one morning after Draco had nudged her to wake her up, she'd had the sniffles for a few days and appeared to be catching a cold.
"Wake up, Mira, you're sleeping the day away."
Miranda couldn't complain, not that she would have if she could... she was so tired but eager to start the day, despite her sniffles. She was very happy with her little family, they loved her and she loved them very much. Especially Owen, she wanted to tell him how much she loved him but all she mouthed was "I love..." and she couldn't seem to get the last part out. A side of her was still afraid of losing him.

Re: Actions Speak Louder
"I'm baaack!!" Owen grinned, walking back to their little camp site with a big basket of... things. He set them down in front of Mira and plopped down on the ground. "So, you've been coughing, sneezing, and sniffling all night... so I've bought some remedies for your cold! The herbalist told me of a few different ones, but I wasn't certain which ones would work for you... so I bought them all! I also bought some things to make you some chicken soup! I at least can cook that since you taught me! And I got a new pillow for you since yours is loosing its fluff, oh! And I got you a warmer blanket, and a handkerchief! Also, new boots as well!" As he was listing the things he bought, he pulled them out one by one to show her.
Draco opened one eye and stared at Owen. "You know what would really help her? A home."
Owen glanced back at the pile of wood and the foundation that had been started, then he nodded. "I know... I'm working on it... there's only so much I can do by myself though..."

Re: Actions Speak Louder
Miranda gasped at every object laid in front of her. She would hug each one for a moment and then gasp over another and hug it as well. She glanced back at Draco and smiled reassuringly, it was how she told him not to be too harsh on Owen, and most times he caught on quickly. With a dismissive wave of her hand, she leaned over to hug Owen and kissed his cheek, she'd, over time, come up with her own personal sign language and her companions seemed to understand it well.
"Still... how many times has she been ill now? A young woman is not meant to live this sort of life. If you need help, I will fetch help, it's easy enough." Draco stretched sleepily.
"I'll help!" Miranda scribbled in the dirt and then she coughed and sneezed.

Owen's cheeks reddened and he nodded slowly with a slight frown. "S-Sorry, I'm really trying. I'll get to work on it right now. Just... call me when Mira gets hungry or tries to cook." He rested a hand on her shoulder. "Just rest, and do some sleeping or something. You need to rest in order to recover." He stood up then and frowned a little again to Draco. "Don't call anyone... that was my personal money I spent for Mira's supplies... we don't have enough to hire anyone to help. I'll get it finished soon!"
"Hmph." Draco draped his wing protectively over Mira. "You'd better hurry. Outside is no place for ladies to sleep. I've been telling you this for the last three years."

Re: Actions Speak Louder
Miranda began to pout but she hid that face from Draco, she didn't want him to continue chastising Owen. Owen was working very hard for her and Draco should have known that, but it seemed he was too distracted by her being sick and cold most of the time. It wasn't like she was afraid of being outside, actually, she'd grown accustomed to it after a year of being trapped outdoors. She had a lot of sunburn and freckles from it, but that didn't bother her any.
She wished she could sit near him while he worked... since he was working alone. It made her really sad to see him, strained and sweaty all on his own. A sneeze threw her thoughts aside and she wiped her nose on the new handkerchief, feeling sad because it was suddenly dirty. Miranda hated to get the things that Owen got her, dirty. She decided that later on, when he wasn't looking, she'd wash it and it would be as good as new... perhaps she could even mend it, should it get worse. That would make him really happy!
After shaking off the stuff from her nose running, she hugged it to her chest and sniffled again.
Miranda really loved her Owen.

Re: Actions Speak Louder
Owen glanced back at the sleeping dragon and the girl huddled close to him for warmth. He smiled a little and let a dry cough escape him. He hadn't really been feeling well for the past couple of days, and though he'd been able to hide it from Mira, he was truly amazed that Draco never noticed. Though, he had really been distracted by Mira being sick lately. Owen did feel bad about that... always having to let her sleep outside. He would much rather her sleep in an inn, but she always turned it down, and would write that she preferred being near them in the dirt. He sighed a bit and picked up a log, sniffling a bit as he carried it toward the partly built house. His eyes were burning and he'd begun to feel worse. He knew he needed to rest but... if he rested, then Mira would pick up the slack... he didn't want her to do that.
Draco's ears perked up at the sound of a simple cough, and he picked up his head, staring off into the distance. He frowned and looked under his wing to see Owen still hadn't laid down to sleep. "Owen..."

Re: Actions Speak Louder
Miranda looked up and then stood, walking over quickly to see him or give him a hug. Something didn't seem right and she wanted to make sure he was okay.
Finally she hugged him from behind and listened to how his breathing sounded, putting her ear against his back. "Owen." She mouthed, he wouldn't see that though. "Come lay down with me..." She kept mouthing things, hoping he'd suddenly hear her voice. "Please."

Re: Actions Speak Louder
The log Owen had been dragging fell out out of his hands and dropped to the ground with a massive thud. It was getting harder for him to stand. He laid a hand over hers which were clasped around him and he began to feel dizzy. Owen tried to breathe, but it became harder and harder every moment. After a minute, he staggered forward as he tried to keep his balance, then he collapsed in Mira's arms.
Draco stood suddenly then, peering at the two figures from where he was. "Owen!"

Re: Actions Speak Louder
With him collapsing, Miranda fell too but still had her arms wrapped around him. In a panic, Miranda checked to see if he was breathing and... barely. She propped up his head carefully and nudged him before giving up.
It was a futile attempt when she pressed her lips against his and began to cry. She was afraid... so afraid that she'd lose him and part of her wanted to blame the absentee witch for all of this.

Re: Actions Speak Louder
Draco rushed to her side and began to flap his wings in a wild panic. "I-Is he alright?! What's wrong with him!? I can't touch his mind... it's walled off! Mira, is he alive? Why are you kissing him? How will that help?! Should I get a healer?!"
