Re: The Distance Between Us
"Christina? Catherine? Caitlin? Carrie?" He pondered. So many names, he could name a million and not get it right.
Re: The Distance Between Us
She shook her head. If only she could just spell it for him. Then all he would have to do is say it!
Re: The Distance Between Us
Jack frowned, "Cyan? Cora? Coral? Calla?" He could do this all day, but at the same time... he wasn't sure.
Re: The Distance Between Us
Again she shook her head and then began to write.
That last name was close.
That last name was close.
Re: The Distance Between Us
She shook her head again, and she might have laughed if she had a voice to laugh with.
The first two letters I mean.
He wasn't too bad at guessing, she supposed.
And he was friendly enough.

Re: The Distance Between Us
Feeling a little dejected he turned to clean up everything and mumbled to himself about how there were too many names that started with CA and that it was really irritating to try and guess. He slammed the knife into the sink and then picked up a dusty looking bag.
"Forget this, I have to work. Maybe you can go see Krys or something." And with that the door slammed shut.

Re: The Distance Between Us
Scratch friendly. He wasn't friendly at all. She frowned and jumped a bit when the door slammed shut. She wasn't sure what she did to make him angry. She sighed sadly and left to do as he suggested, and visit Krys' grave. At least Krys had been kind and sweet. She had always wondered why Krys didn't want her to meet her father, but now the girl knew. He was just mean. He was nice and comforting for a moment, then he'd be mean again.
She came upon Krys' grave and sat down beside it. The fresh dirt was cool and damp beneath her fingers as she touched the small grave. There was a temporary stone set at the head of the grave, which would soon bear Krys' name. She sniffed and wiped a tear away. Maybe it was better that she leave? She wasn't sure that she was helping Krys' father at all, and rather just adding to his stress.
Would you hate me if I left him? Or... would you understand? She thought to herself. He keeps giving up, and... I'm not getting any younger. What if I'm an old woman by the time this curse is lifted? I need someone who can guess my name. Or at least knows the gravity of the situation. He doesn't even know why I'm having him continually guess my name. He keeps getting angry with me too. I don't think he really likes me... except that I look like you mother.

*Krys*
"Daddy has always been really stubborn." The almost transparent girl said as she kicked her little feet back and forth, sitting on the stone and smiling in her friend's direction. "He's just mad because he feels like the world is against him." Krys was saying things beyond her age because of being dead, her childlike voice made the words seem unreal. She hopped from the head of stone and wrapped the woman in an embrace that felt cold and warm at the same time.

Re: The Distance Between Us
She cried. She cried silently and her whole body ached.
I know that, but I only seem to matter because I look like you mother. He wanted to call me Uli, Krys! And now he's angry with me because he can't figure out my name, and I can't tell him why he needs to! I can't tell him anything! She sobbed silently, wishing she could scream.

Re: The Distance Between Us
"Don't cry so much. Daddy said crying doesn't fix the hurts sometimes so you just need to hit something! But don't hurt yourself." Krys giggled softly, it almost echoed, "Daddy never let go of Mommy... everything looks like Mommy to him. You need to steal his heart back from her, that's all. It seems tough but she still holds it... he never got it back." Krys didn't let go, she just hugged tighter, "I can help you... he'll stop being angry if he can let go."
Re: The Distance Between Us
That's easier said than done. The young woman replied.
How is a silent woman supposed to steal the heart of any man when she can't even audibly cry? The only sounds I can make are sniffles and gasps... or call to him as a falcon... but... She shook her head. He only smiles at me when he thinks of her.

Re: The Distance Between Us
"That's because she makes him smile... if you focus hard enough you can find her ghost all over the place." Krys sighed, "She's very tricky... what I've found since being here is that neither of them said goodbye or I love you when she died. So... she's haunting him. If I can talk to you then she can too and the more you hang around the more clingy she'll stay to him. Being a ghost is complicated." Krys giggled cheerfully.
Re: The Distance Between Us
The woman sniffed and frowned. That... that's mean of her. Why wouldn't she allow him to move on? Doesn't she want him to be happy?
Re: The Distance Between Us
"That's what I don't understand... Mommy seems a different person than what Daddy described, she seems almost manipulative..." Krys frowned that time and backed up, "She has him wrapped around her finger... I think she was a witch."
Re: The Distance Between Us
She raised her eyebrows and stared at the girl, stunned. A witch? But... wow. How can I make her go away?
Re: The Distance Between Us
"That's what we have to figure out... I think we can do it!" Krys said confidently, "She doesn't talk to me, she seems distant... almost like she's mad at me."
Re: The Distance Between Us
The young woman smiled a little. Ah, okay then. So... we're supposed to get a witch's ghost to stop harassing your father, so I can get him to like me, so he won't get angry with me, so he'll free me? Did I get all of that?
Re: The Distance Between Us
"Pretty much!" Krys hopped on the stone again, "If she's not here she's probably at the house... ghosts know everything." She tapped the lady's nose, "I'm so sorry I got sick... But I think I can help you better this way."
Re: The Distance Between Us
Krys almost had a knowing smile, her eyes brightened up and she gave a nod, "Camille. It is very pretty, I was close... one more day could have done it."
Re: The Distance Between Us
Camille sighed and nodded slowly. I'm afraid he'll never guess it. Do you think she's keeping him from being able to?
Re: The Distance Between Us
Krys sighed, "Unfortunately... if I know your name she probably does too. You need to confront her... but there's probably something in the house that is keeping her tied there too... if she's a witch."
Re: The Distance Between Us
Oh man. Camille dropped her head in her hands. I don't know if I want to. I've already been cursed once. I don't know if I can handle it happening again.
Re: The Distance Between Us
"I'll protect you." Krys jumped down and hugged Camille, "Mommy... you can win this. I'm sorry I never knew sooner. Thank you for spending those days with me... I got to have you for a while."
