Re: The Distance Between Us
She shivered again. His touch seemed to make that happen. But she nodded slowly. She was starving and all she'd had the day before was a banana and honey sandwich. She sniffed again and sighed. She felt really hopeless still. She wasn't sure how to tell him what she needed him to know. Krys, being very imaginative and playful, had guessed it all correctly because she wasn't trying to. But... how would she get a grown man to guess that she was a cursed wizard princess, and had lost her voice, and he needed to say her name to free her?
Re: The Distance Between Us
"Okay, let's go eat." Jack helped her up off the floor and guided her into the kitchen, "You can pick whatever you want..." He figured she couldn't really speak to him because she didn't seem to try. "How long did you know Krys?" He asked, "Just hold up fingers..."
Re: The Distance Between Us
She frowned some and seemed to count in her head for a bit before holding up two fingers. He seemed nice enough, she thought. She just wasn't sure what to do or where to go now.
Re: The Distance Between Us
"You met her when she was three... I feel like I missed so much of her life and suddenly she was gone. I thought it was just a cold." Jack could see tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry. She meant a lot to you... right?"
Re: The Distance Between Us
She nodded sadly. Krys hadn't been just a friend to her, but she was so close to being her hero... and it was scary. It was scary having come so far and losing not only your friend, but everything that can save you.
She sniffed and wiped her eyes.

Re: The Distance Between Us
Jack felt guilty when he saw her crying again and he had to approach her. "I'm sorry." He hugged her tightly, "I'm sorry, this is my fault... I should have done something more, I'm so sorry."
Re: The Distance Between Us
It wasn't his fault. She'd watched him a lot and there was only so much he knew... so much that Krys would let him know. It was beyond his control that she died, and yet he was blaming himself. She pulled away a little and shook her head quickly, frowning at him. It wasn't his fault, and he needed to know that. If he was blaming himself constantly, he wouldn't be able to help her.
Re: The Distance Between Us
Jack frowned, "What? I was her father... I could have done better right?" The woman looked even more sad and her head was shaking no. He was confused, "Can you write?" He asked, "I can't tell what you think besides yes or no..."
Re: The Distance Between Us
She frowned a little, thinking. She'd never thought to try. She shrugged a bit, shaking her head. She didn't know if the spell would allow her to say anything about it.
Re: The Distance Between Us
"Never mind... just pick something you want to eat and I'll cook." Jack was concerned but he decided not to pry anymore, it was obvious she couldn't answer questions.
Re: The Distance Between Us
She frowned sadly. She'd thought he was going to grab a pen and some paper, but he didn't. She sighed some and grabbed a banana and some bread and honey and began making herself a sandwich. She wanted to scream, but she couldn't. She couldn't even whine, or cry out in pain. Her voice was gone and her heart with it. She was certain there was no one else besides Krys that could help her now that the man was giving up. Maybe... maybe she could live silently.
She immediately forced that thought out of her mind. She'd much rather die. But even being unable to sing was killing her to the core. She wanted to cry again, but there was no satisfaction in crying when you couldn't hear yourself. For some reason... it helped less that way.

Re: The Distance Between Us
"Krys said she saw her mother sometimes when she went to visit her alone... I didn't know she did that until a couple days ago. I think it's... strange, or maybe I'm just not childlike enough." He shrugged and dropped a pen and paper on the table, "If you think of something you want to say... have at it."
Re: The Distance Between Us
She stared at it for a long time. What did he mean if she thought of something? There were a lot of things she wanted to say all at once! But she had to think of something relevant. Something important.
Krys was helping me. She wrote and then went back to making her sandwich.

Re: The Distance Between Us
Jack stopped cooking and stared at the paper for a minute, "Helping you with what? She was five... what could she do?" He asked incredulously. Finding out that his little daughter had a secret life was shocking.
Re: The Distance Between Us
She frowned and began to write, irritated that he seemed to think children were incapable of things. >(
Children are among the most brilliant of people, having great, and amazing ideas every day. The problem is that there is no one who will listen to them. Your daughter was wonderful, and she was trying to help me speak again. My voice is lost to me.

Re: The Distance Between Us
Jack was taking it all in, all of this... he didn't know what to think. "So... Krys was important and she's gone... now what are you going to do? What can I do to help?"
Re: The Distance Between Us
She began to write, but all she was able to get out was; 'You must learn my'. She frowned angrily, and struggled to write the last word, but the curse wasn't allowing it. She huffed in frustration, knowing it would have been an angry scream if not for the spell. She tossed the pen back on the table. She couldn't even properly write to him!
She finished making her sandwich and took a bite, chewing angrily.

Re: The Distance Between Us
"Learn... okay I guess I can learn... something." He noticed her frustration and then sat down to eat with her. She was amusing company for him and he couldn't help but smile, "Well... Uli." he laughed, deciding to call her that, "Calm down, I can learn what you need me to learn... let's take it a day at a time!"
Re: The Distance Between Us
She frowned at him. He was calling her by the name of his dead wife. This didn't bode well if that was the only name he could think of. She was growing restless. She hadn't been able to speak in years. she hadn't been able to sing her favorite songs. Did she even remember how to speak? She sighed and then took another bite. The only good thing about this was the banana and honey sandwich.
Re: The Distance Between Us
"Sorry, guess that's not your name after all... not that I thought it was. You look a little like a... Arora?" He asked, "That name looks suitable for you... it's pretty." He offered, "I just need something you'll answer to."
Re: The Distance Between Us
Why not? He wasn't going to guess it anyway. She took another bit of her sandwich and watched him.
How about I just call you George? Would you like that? No. Because it isn't you name. BUT YOU CAN'T GUESS MINE!
She sighed heavily. She didn't like Arora. She liked her own name. She had a very pretty name. She just needed someone to say it.

Re: The Distance Between Us
"Okay, okay! Um... Rae? Lauree? Anna? Lexi? Lindsey? Sarah?" He kept naming names, she wouldn't write it down so he just kept going. "Nira? Tera? Abby?"
Re: The Distance Between Us
She shook her head. He was naming a lot of names, but none of them were hers. She watched him name off names, think, then name off more names. Surely he'd heard more names than Krys, but Krys was also very smart. She yawned some.
All of those are boring. She wrote. Mine is pretty. I am a wizard princess.

Re: The Distance Between Us
"I need to find a letter your name starts with... then I can narrow it down because I don't want you to feel bad." Jack smiled and finished his food, she was a great distraction, he could just keep her there!
Re: The Distance Between Us
She sighed and wrote down the letter C. She didn't think her name would be that tough to guess, but according to Jack, and Krys... it was very difficult. She stood and made her way to the couch with her pen and paper so she could be comfortable while she listened to him try to guess her name.
