Re: Dancing in the Rain
"Thanks," I said, my worries swept away as I picked up a few pieces. I tend to lose track of time whenever I was putting together a puzzle, and this time was no different.
"Iris, could you hand me a piece from your side?" I asked nicely, "I can't seen find a piece on my side that fits."

I reached over and handed a few pieces to him, silence seemed to be stabbed each time we said something or made a sound.
"Here."
"Here."
Re: Dancing in the Rain
"Thank you," I said as I found a place to put my piece in. I suddenly started to feel tired, having trouble keeping my eyes open. I must have stayed up too long, as I couldn't stay awake for a long time due to my illness.

"Are you alright?" I ventured before putting in another piece, "Maybe you should lay down for a while. We can spend time together again later."
Re: Dancing in the Rain
"Yeah, I'm okay," I said sleepily, "I'm just tired. Thank you for your concern, though." It really felt touching, coming from Iris. I felt as if I had found a purpose in life, no matter how short it may be. I gazed into her eyes, feeling so grateful to actually connect with another person.

"I should go to bed." I smiled again and then backed away from the finished puzzle, much later. I was feeling tired and we'd actually stayed up just spending time together and getting to know each other. It was so much fun.
Re: Dancing in the Rain
"I hope we can meet again tomorrow!" I said as I stretched my arms, "We both had a lot of fun today!" For once in my life, the hospital seemed less dreary and I had Iris to thank! I couldn't help but smile for the first time in a long time.

-One Month Later-
I had begun to get weaker over time. I didn't go to the rec room as much and spent time relaxing in bed and trying to gain strength. It was too tiring to do anything.

Re: Dancing in the Rain
The rec room seemed bleak without Iris around. There were day when I'm feeling well enough to get around, I would wait for Iris for a long time until one of the nurses told me she wasn't coming. As soon as I learned which room Iris was staying, I begun to spend time with her there.
"So Iris," I said one day as we stayed in her room, "Do you have any hopes and dream you want to share with me?" I wanted to get to know more of her despite our illnesses.

Re: Dancing in the Rain
I stared at the ceiling, "I want to dance in the rain." I replied in a soft voice, "With someone I love."
Re: Dancing in the Rain
"That sounds sweet," I said, holding her hand, "I have always dreamed of fully recovering and leaving this hospital to live a normal life. Maybe even travel around world!" I looked deep into her eyes, wondering if we'll ever be together in the end. "Can I ask you something?" I said as I had an idea.

Re: Dancing in the Rain
"How about I take you dancing when it's raining out?" I suggested, grasping her hands, "I thought I'd make your dream come true since I don't know if mine will ever be. At least if we both die, then we won't have any regrets." I was determined to fulfill her last wish and make her happy.

He was so sweet, "That would be so cool." I replied, "When I can dance... I want to dance with you."
Re: Dancing in the Rain
My heart leaped at the sound of her reply. "That sounds great!" I said, almost stuttering, "And I would love to dance with you!" I never felt so giddy and joyful in my entire life!

Again I smiled, "Would you like to have lunch in here?" I asked him, "It might be pizza today."
Re: Dancing in the Rain
"That will be great!" I said, my mouth drooling at the thought of pizza. The food at the hospital wasn't as terrible as people thought, in fact they taste pretty good. Of course, I loved their pizza most of all as it had reminded me of the happier days in my childhood. Mom would make a large pizza for the whole family and my little brother and I would help out with the toppings. I wonder how he was doing right now...

"I haven't had pizza in a long time. I like the idea of it. I always order it with special toppings." I told him with honesty.
Re: Dancing in the Rain
"What kind?" I asked curiously, "I usually have sausage and pepperoni on mine." Okay, that was not the most original topping, but it was still good.

"Canadian bacon. Regular bacon... peperoni and onions." I told him, "My favorites."
Re: Dancing in the Rain
"Sounds tasty," I said, "I'd like to try those toppings." I guess it was the need to live life to its fullest was what made me say that.

Re: Dancing in the Rain
Later the pizza arrived smelling glorious and we were able to dig in. I hadn't felt that hungry in a very long time so it was good!
Re: Dancing in the Rain
I took my slice and bit into it. The wonderful taste filled my mouth as I savored each bite. "This is good!" I said after swallowing my bite.

"I told you it would be." I replied as I finished a piece and laid it on the tray. I turned to look at Jake suddenly, eyes welled with tears.
"I-If I die, promise not to be sad? Will you not grieve?"

Re: Dancing in the Rain
I was stunned by Iris's request as I looked into her tearful eyes. Ever since we met, the thought of either of us dying never crossed my mind. "I'll try," I said, giving her the best answer I could think of. I reached over and held her hand, gently squeezing it.
