Once Upon a Love Story - Autumn Lillies

[Ikuar]

Peace.

It was something none of us had experienced in so many years. I was tired and at sixteen had been drafted into a very serious war. Now twenty-three and free of the torture of battle, I was laying around outside of town just resting under the sun and waiting to see where my life would take me next. I was covered in scars, had plenty of anxieties but I was happy and rested out here nonetheless.

I liked sleeping out here more than anywhere else. I smiled and thought about her.

The girl I loved and had lost before the war started. I knew she was out there somewhere but I wasn't sure where to begin my search. I sat up and decided to stop thinking about it before I made myself sad. I lost a lot of things with the war but the peace we gained after the fight was done was well earned. I just wished I had my love back. I picked up an Autumn Lilly and began to gently touch the petals. They were said to be good omens. I smiled.

"Bring her back... I miss her."

[Jayrin]

"Bring who back?" I asked, landing softly on the top of his hand. "Is she really that great?" I asked and began to braid my bright red hair. I sat down and fluttered my wings some while braiding my hair. "If she ever left you to begin with, she might not be..."

[Ikuar]

I frowned, "Hey now, you don't know that. We got separated when the city was being evacuated and when I got drafted into the war." I said sadly, "She could be dead... it was very violent."

[Jayrin]

That was interesting. He didn't seem too surprised to be talking to me. It was rare my people showed ourselves to bigger folk. "Your wars usually are. Are you sure she hasn't found another man? Don't tell me you haven't thought about it. But maybe... I could find out for you." I smiled and continued braiding my long hair. "But you have to do something for me in return..."

[Ikuar]

I thought about it for a moment and then decided I'd see what the bargain was, "Alright, what can I do for you?" I asked curiously.

[Jayrin]

I stood up and tied my hair before doing a quick turn around for him. "I am obviously in need of new clothes. I would like for you to buy me new clothes that I can wear. I look like an orphaned fairy, and I don't like it. I would like for there to be at least two different patterns used. I don't want to wear the same basic thing over and over. Oh, and I will need a case for the clothes. It shouldn't cost you too much, should it?" I asked, placing my hands on my hips. How much are you willing to spend for... her?"

[Ikuar]

I shrugged, "Well... I need your measurements if I'm to get clothing for your size." I laughed a little bit, "Would doll clothing do?" I decided to ask her, most doll clothing was well made.

[Jayrin]

"I will go with you. Then it will surly fit and I won't have been duped." I said with a small frown. "What is your name by the way?"

[Ikuar]

I laughed at that, she was very interesting! "My name is River, and yours? Or are you even allowed to tell me?" I got up and started to walk towards town.

[Jayrin]

"Nope! You will never know.... unless you fall in love with me." I said, turning on his hand to face the same way he was. "So this girl... what is she like?"

[Ikuar]

"She's... got big green eyes and fair skin... auburn colored hair. She's sweet, generous and very shy sometimes but with me we could talk about anything." I explained.

[Jayrin]

I tilted my head some. She sounded very pretty. "Were you in love?" I asked, clasping my hands together behind my back.

[Ikuar]

"Yes, we were even considering marriage." I frowned, "I got drafted and she disappeared after the evacuation."

[Jayrin]

"It's strange, don't you think that she wouldn't try to look for you or find out if you're alive?" I said with a frown. I thought that sounded fishy. I turned and looked up at him with my hands on my hips. "Are you sure you want to go through with this? She could turn out to be a very different person than you thought she was, you know."

[Ikuar]

"That or she's died." I had to face that anything could have happened during the evacuation.

[Jayrin]

I nodded a bit. "She could have..." I turned to look up at him. "What is her name?"

[Ikuar]

"Krystal." I replied, this fairy was very interesting. I'd never even met a fairy before but she was adorable.

[Jayrin]

"Hmm.." I frowned some. "I will ask for her in the city while the tailor fixes my clothes. They need to fit around my wings." I said and straitened the ragged dress I was wearing. I was tired of it. It was well worn though, and soft as a result. "I'm sure I can find her. People talk to fairies easier than their own kind. It's a curious fact."

[Ikuar]

"Oh okay, thanks!" I finally got into town with her and headed straight for the tailor. When I woke up this morning I had no idea my day was going to be so confusing. I hadn't ever thought that I'd meet a fairy.

[Jayrin]

I jumped up and decided to sit on his shoulder. I found it to be much more comfortable than his hand. I looked up at the huge buildings in awe. "These buildings are so huge!"

[Ikuar]

"Have you never been in town before?" I asked, I wanted to touch her hair, it looked so soft.

[Jayrin]

I shook my head. "I don't have business here, nor can I carry your currency. It's too heavy to carry more than one coin." I said, crossing my legs. "Is it really so surprising that you don't see fairies? If your city and life is built in no way to accommodate us, why should we come to your city? We keep to our flowers and grass stalks."

[Ikuar]

"I'm sorry." I hadn't meant to offend her, "But then what makes you think you can find clothing? It might be hard for the tailor to make something so small."

[Jayrin]

"Because my people can't make the cloth to make clothing, tailors make it for us. But our clothes are very old. Tailors recently began charging us money which we can't afford. We used to offer our services but they no longer take them. That's why my dress is all nasty. It belonged to my grandmother."

[Ikuar]

"Oh well... okay then." I took her in and saw a chubby woman at the front. "Hello! Can I help you?" She asked.

"I need a fairy dress..." I pointed to... whatever her name was.
